چکیده
Nearly all atoms contributing to the local structure of Bransted acid sites in zeolites exhibit isotopes accessible for multinuclear solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) investigations. Therefore, in the last 15 years, NMR spectroscopy has found numerous applications for the determination of the types of hydroxyl proton in zeolites, of their concentration, accessibility, and mobility, and for the characterization of their acid strength and local structure. It allows the study of the role of hydroxyl groups in the formation of adsorbate complexes and in heterogeneously catalyzed reactions. Meanwhile, NMR spectroscopy belongs to the most powerful techniques for the characterization of Bransted acid sites in zeolites and related materials. The basis of this success is the invention of new sample preparation techniques, external magnetic fields with high-flux densities, effective line-narrowing methods, and D o w n l o a d e d B y : [ U n i v e r s i t y o f S t u t t g a r t ] A t : 1 6 : 0 6 1 0 S e p t e m b e r 2 0 0 9 BRaNSTED ACID SITES IN ZEOLITES 347 new two-dimensional experiments, making the detection of highly resolved solid-state NMR spectra and the separation of spectral parameters possible. This article gives a review of these techniques and a summary of the most important applications of multinuclear solid-state NMR spectroscopy for the characterization of Brgnsted acid sites in dehydrated zeolites.

Two NMR techniques, zH MAS NMR and echo Fourier 27AI NMR, have been applied for the first time to the investigation of Bronsted sites in dehydrated hydrogen forms ofzeolites. The “AI signal of SiOHAl sites, which was “NMR-invisible” until now, yields a quadrupole coupling constant C,,= 16 MHz for the dehydrated zeolite H-ZSM-5. The values of C,, determined from the ZH MAS NMR spectra of SiODAl ...
متن کاملBoron Sites in Borosilicate Zeolites at Various Stages of Hydration Studied by Solid State NMR Spectroscopy
Borosilicate zeolites have recently been studied in many aspects because they are useful in substitution of framework metal ions (to Al or Ga) and in catalyzing chemical reactions that use relatively weak acid strength. Boron shows a great extent of flexibility in coordination conversion between trigonal boron, B[3], and tetrahedral boron, B[4]. Such conversion takes place in the framework of b...

Two-dimensional triple-quantum (2D-3Q) 23Na MAS NMR spectroscopy has been applied for the investigation of sodium cations in dehydrated zeolites NaY, NaEMT, NaZSM-5 and NaMOR. The experiments have shown that the new 2D-3Q technique allows the determination of the isotropic chemical shifts and quadrupolar couplings of sodium cations with SOQE (second-order quadrupolar effect) parameters of up to...

New experimental techniques of in situ MAS NMR spectroscopy introduced in the past decade made this analytical method to a useful tool for the study of heterogeneously catalyzed reactions. Batch and flow techniques were applied to study reactions catalyzed by basic and acidic solids. The present review introduces into in situ MAS NMR investigations of transition states, e.g., via the H/D exchan...
